Man in China takes knife to elementary school, seriously injures 22 children
On Friday, Dec. 14, while the United States mourned the loss of 28 people including 20 children at the Sandy Hook Elementary School, China was experiencing its own traumatic school tragedy.
A knife wielding man entered an elementary school in Henan province and slashed 22 children and one adult. Xinhua news agency is reporting that in Chenpeng Village, a man attacked the children and one adult at the gate to the school.
The man has been identified by police as Min Yingiun, 36. As of yet, none of the victims have died from their wounds.
The injured children some of who were as young as six were treated at a local hospital. Many of the knife wounds were on the ears and head.
Guangshan Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital spokesman spoke with CBS News and reported that at least two of the injured children had injuries that required them to be transferred to the larger city of Wuhan for treatment to life-threatening injuries.
A series of violent assaults have stuck Chinese elementary schools. In 2010, 18 children were killed in four different incidents. As will the innocent lives lost at Sandy Hook Elementary school, love, prayers and condolences go out to all the victims and their families.
